| Oklahoma Shooting Skills Philosophy We at Oklahoma Shooting Skills believe that simpler is better. We have taken a comprehensive shooting instructional program and condensed it as far as possible to create a program that is easy to learn, easy to teach, and useable in the real world. We have developed a few multi-purpose techniques that fulfill all expected functions in the use of firearms, with no unnecessary motions to learn. We believe that greatest effectiveness stems from immediate action, and that too many different possible techniques to choose from slows the process by adding a needed element of decision. Towards that end, we have developed a system that will provide everything you need and nothing to get in your way! Changing Firearms Instruction When one chooses to become proficient in a traditional martial art, one expects several hours a week in the dojo, for many years before real proficiency can be attained. Traditional martial artist students become process oriented rather than goal oriented. To them, the process of learning becomes the goal. Conversely, when one chooses to become proficient in the use of firearms, one expects a one-time learning experience. Those seeking firearms training are granted an hour, a day, maybe even a week of intense instruction, and then are released by their instructors to go home and maintain the skills they have learned. Many of these students actually do return to their homes and make a concerted attempt at practicing their newly learned skills. Unlike the traditional martial artist, they lack the attention of a skilled, experienced instructor watching over their practice to ensure they are correctly training and properly maintaining their skills. Neither of these extremes is practical. Very few of us have the time to dedicate to the training regimen of the traditional martial arts. Worse, even fewer of us can maintain, let alone improve on skills learned in a single seminar through solitary practice. We at Oklahoma Shooting Skills have developed the “Retread” program to split the difference between these two extremes. Simply stated, once a student has taken a class, he is always welcome to re-take the same class for a nominal range fee instead of paying full tuition to the class again. Some students see this as an opportunity to approach shooting with the martial artist mindset. It allows students structured practices under the tutelage of our instructors to ensure their techniques are properly learned and maintained. Other students simply use the retread program to reinforce an earlier class prior to enrolling in a more advanced class. There are even a few students who use the retread program as an excuse to avoid an evening at home with their spouses! Regardless of the motivation, all students are welcomed back to re-take any class they have purchased as many times as they would like to attend. |
